This rug is one in a series designed to show the beauty of traditional Persian rugs and carpets. Three categories of Persian rugs are included in this series. Tabriz No.2 is in the floral style of rugs produced in the weaving workshops of Persia, now Iran. They were generally woven at the direction of the royal courts and wealthy merchants. A design would be created by a master designer and the weaver would follow a cartoon, or graphed representation of the design. The ancient city of Tabriz was a center of rug production of the style represented by my design. The city was a crossroads on the ancient Silk Road, the trade route between Europe and the Far East. Central Asian rugs are traditionally knotted pile rugs; my series of Persian rugs offers an impression of Persian designs using a modern handweaving structure. Other rugs in this series offer impressions of the village/family and nomad/tribal styles of Persian hand weaving. |
