This rug is one in a series designed to show the beauty of traditional Persian rugs and carpets.  Three categories of Persian rugs are included in this series.  Mazlaghan No.2 is in the conventional style of rugs produced in the smaller towns and villages of Persia, now Iran.  The rugs were generally woven by extended families and local craftsman for use within the home.  A design for a rug would be a compilation of rugs of the past generations and was usually woven from the memory of the weaver.  Mazlaghan is a village due east of Hamadan, a major production area of Persian rugs.  It is in the Karaghan area near Kerdar and Nobearan in northeastern Iran.  Rugs from this village often make use of the distinctive lightning bolt motif, as seen in my design.  Central Asian rugs are traditionally knotted pile rugs; my series of Persian rugs offers an impression of Persian designs using a modern handweaving structure.  Other rugs in this series offer impressions of the royal workshop and nomad/tribal styles of Persian hand weaving.
