A  PERSIAN RUG ABOUNDS WITH BEAUTY AND POETRY

This rug is one in a series designed to show the beauty of traditional Persian rugs and carpets.  Three categories of Persian rugs are included in this series.  Baluch No.3 is in the tribal/nomad style of rugs woven by tribes of nomads who traveled the grazing lands of eastern Persia, now Iran.  The rugs were generally woven by tribe members for use in the family tents and would be used to pack up possessions for the trip to better grazing for their livestock.  This design is influenced by the tribal rugs of the Khorassan Region of eastern Iran, south of the historic city of Meshed.  The border of this design is woven in the "locked-S" motif and the field is representative of the "gul" motif, also called the "tarantula" motif after the desert spiders that would sneak their way into the tent.  Central Asian rugs are traditionally knotted pile rugs; my series of Persian rugs offers an impression of Persian designs using a modern handweaving structure.  Other rugs in this series offer impressions of the royal workshop and village styles of Persian hand weaving
