AN ORIGINAL OVERSHOT DESIGN FOR ALASKA RUG WEAVER

This design takes advantage of the most familiar of three-element weaves called overshot. It is commonly seen in Colonial coverlet designs as well in modern interpretations. The design approach begins with a name or phrase...in this case, Alaska Rug Weaver...and assigns the letters to loom shafts following a conversion table. The result is the pattern seen in the field of this rug. The border is a straight twill that sets off the design of the field, or center of the rug. It is woven on opposites, rather than the traditional overshot weave structure. This provides a good, stable rug structure. I will accept commissions for rug designs representing your name or phrase.
