The name of this series of rugs is taken from a term that describes "industry and hard work." They are designed around bands of color loosely interlaced, with a third color in the background giving the appearance of depth. It is a thick and stable hand-woven rug despite its fluid appearance. Deseret No.1 uses the colors of Central Asia and the impression of floral Persian rugs with its central medallion and four quarters. Side 1 of the rug illustrates the flow of color as it weaves in and out. Side 2 gives a more subdued impression, perhaps a grilled or stain-glass feeling. |
